What Is Vedic Astrology?

Vedic Astrology is based on the philosophy of karma and reincarnation. Never feel sorry for yourself, never ask why me and never compare your life to anyone else’s. You are alone in this journey and you live by the decisions and choices you make.

Your birth chart is calculated from your exact date, time and place of birth. It maps the position of the planets, Moon, Rising sign, houses and constellations at that moment.

Vedic Astrology uses those placements to explain why you react the way you do and why the same problems can return in different forms. It can also expose parts of yourself that are harder to recognise from the outside.

Planetary periods and transits add timing. They show when a particular area of life is likely to demand more of your attention.

Your chart does not make your decisions for you. It shows you what you are dealing with before you decide what to do with it.

How Vedic Astrology Works

Vedic Astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which follows the actual position of the constellations in the sky. This is why your Vedic sign can be different from the sign you may already know from Western astrology.

Your Moon sign is especially important because it describes your emotional nature, instincts and the way you process what happens to you. Your Rising sign shows how you meet the world and sets the houses of your birth chart.

Each planet has a different role. The sign, house and constellation it occupies all change how that planet is expressed.

Vedic Astrology also works with timing. Planetary periods, known as dashas, and current transits are used to see which parts of your chart are active at different points in your life.

The chart is read as a whole. One placement can never explain you on its own.

Vedic vs Western Astrology

Vedic and Western astrology both use your birth chart, but they calculate it differently.

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which begins at the spring equinox. Vedic Astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the constellations as they appear in the sky.

Over time, the two systems have moved about 24 degrees apart because of the precession of the equinoxes. In Vedic Astrology, this difference is called the ayanamsa. It is why your Vedic Sun, Moon or Rising sign may be different from the one you know from Western astrology.

The difference goes beyond your zodiac sign. Vedic Astrology gives greater importance to the Moon and uses planetary periods and transits to understand timing.

The two systems use different reference points, so neither is simply right or wrong. Vedic Astrology is aligned with the constellations as they appear in the sky, while Western astrology follows the seasonal zodiac.

You can understand why something keeps happening and still choose not to repeat it.

Your Birth Chart

Your birth chart is calculated from the exact date, time and place of birth. It shows where the planets were positioned when you were born.

In Vedic Astrology, those placements are read together. A planet can behave very differently depending on the sign, house and constellation it occupies, as well as the planets influencing it. This is why one placement can never explain you on its own. Your chart can show why some reactions feel automatic, why the same difficulties can return in different forms and where different parts of your personality pull in opposite directions.

It is also used to understand karma and timing. Rahu and Ketu, the lunar nodes, are especially important in Vedic Astrology, while planetary periods and transits help show when different parts of your chart become more active.

Why the Moon Matters

In Vedic Astrology, the Moon describes your emotional nature and the way your mind responds to life.

Your Moon sign shows your instinctive emotional response. It often explains why something affects you before you have worked out what you think about it.

The Moon is also linked to memory and emotional habit. Some experiences stay with you long after the moment itself has ended.

Your Moon sign is read alongside its house, constellation and planetary influences, which can change how it is expressed.

Destiny, Karma & Free Will

Vedic Astrology does not say that everything in your life is fixed.

Some karma is already part of the life you are born into. Other karma is created by what you do now.

That distinction matters. You may not be able to change every circumstance, but you can recognise when you are making the same choice again because it feels familiar.

Rahu and Ketu are especially important here. Ketu is linked to karma carried forward from previous lives. Rahu shows where that karma is being worked through in this one.

Free will is not control over everything that happens. It is the part that remains yours.
